The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. Without refrigerants, air conditioning would not be possible. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 because of its destructive impact to the environment. Introducing R-410A To lessen environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and is free of chlorine, so it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Odessa because it’ll help make your AC perform efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was manufactured before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You probably should look into upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is ultimately unavailable. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Redhawk Heating & Air Conditioning work with R-410A, so you can be sure we have an AC or heat pump you can better rely on. You should also steer clear of”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
